We’re celebrating Air Max Day by revitalizing an icon. Pulling from the archives, the Air Max 1 ’86 tells one of Nike’s biggest stories: revealing Air to the world. But the lesser-known fact is that for the first few months of its release, the Air Max 1 featured a noticeably bigger window. So, like…why did the window shrink? We discovered an exposed Air unit tends to crack in cold temperatures, so Nike engineers had to adjust on the fly. We created a new Air unit and quietly "shrunk the window both in length and height." Lucky for us, it’s not the ‘80s anymore. The bubble-bursting days of yesteryear stayed where they belong—firmly rooted in the past.
